As new creations in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17), Christians are spiritually distinct from biblical figures like David, Moses, Elijah, and Abraham who lived before Pentecost. We possess the righteousness of God, the Spirit of God, and eternal life from Him. Our identity is as sons of God.
Because of this truth, Paul urges us to “put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to deceitful lusts, and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and put on the new man which was created according to God in true righteousness and holiness” (Ephesians 4:22-24).
In essence, recognizing our identity as sons of a King is essential to receiving and manifesting our inheritance.
